Football may have been the main source of inspiration to my debut as a blogger but also the fact that I have broken so many New Year’s resolutions of late made me think I had to balance it up a bit.
One of the big promises this year was never lose a belonging. I am extremely good at that and if it was a strength, not a weakness, I’d brag about my position on the world ranking. Through the years the list have grown and contains about three digital cameras, a couple of mobile phones, a handful of handbags including ID, VISA card and make up and a huge amount of gloves and scarfes. Hence why I’m banned from bringing cameras on nights out and have a second (really cheap and rubbish) mobile phone only used when partying.
Anyhow, it’s not just when I let my hair down that I tend to lose things. It happens all the time just by a simple movement from A to B. I’m so absent-minded and forgetful it’s unbelievable. So I have to confess my New Year’s resolution of 2009 ‘Not losing a single belonging’ isn’t looking too brightly. Here’s the list (so far), and don’t think I’ve not made an effort to keep hold of my stuff because I HAVE.
• My most ever expensive lipgloss from Body Shop was lost after a night out in Preston on 13.02.09, obviously because it was Friday the 13th. The same day as my ex received a £60 charge for a disallowed right-turn (which we split as he was driving me). Funny thing is he was driving me to my bank as I was paying an overdraft charge of £30. Lovely day.
• One of my favourite ear rings which was a graduation gift from my best friend. I think I lost it in the changing room at work before going to the gym. I remember taking it off before the work-out and putting it in a ‘safe pocket’ which proved not so safe. Please note I said ‘think’ which means it could be anywhere.
• A pair of cheap silver gloves from Primark after a night out in Harrow on 28.02.09.
• A cheap, plain, non-fragrance lypsyl which was ready for the bin anyways. Could be found in pockets but doubt it.
• Vaseline, the stand-in for my recently lost lypsyl. Probably lost it on when descending the tube on 05.03.09 when coming back from fabulous theatre Les Miserables. Also lost my Oyster card at this very moment but nice gentleman at the tube stop picked it up and as I was stood at the bottom of the stairs in the station wondering how the hell I lost it. He might have seen me losing it but if not I think he just sussed me out as I had the most puzzling face on the planet.
• A black H&M scarf, which I strangely enough have had for years. The scarf, that I use every day. Lost it on 08.03.09 on the tube when changing at Acton Town.
• A water bottle after footy on 08.03.09. This time it wasn’t the personal value of my belonging, nor the cost, that was hard to overcome. It was the fact that I was so thirsty and had a 3,5 miles walk ahead of me. Obviously went past a few shops when making my way from Regent’s Park to South Kensington but I was punishing myself by not allowing myself any fluid.
So that’s the complete list up to date and in 67 days I have broken one of my New Year’s resolutions no less than seven times. Subsequently, I have also broken the overall resolution which was not to break any of the resolutions. It makes sense why I started blogging which was another resolution, I just simply had to make up for the failed ones… Did I say resolution?
